ID Protection, sometimes also referred to as WHOIS or Privacy Protection, is a service that hides the real contact details of domain owners on WHOIS lookup web sites. Without such protection, the name, street address and email of any domain registrant will be freely accessible. Giving false info during the registration process or altering the genuine details subsequently will simply not work, as doing such a thing may result in the registrant losing his/her ownership of the domain. The policies adopted by ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, require that the WHOIS info must be valid and accurate at all times. The ID Protection service was introduced by domain name registrars as an answer to the rising concerns for potential identity fraud. If the protection service is enabled, the domain registrar’s contact details will be shown instead of the client’s upon a WHOIS lookup. Most domain names support the ID Protection service, although there are certain country-code ones that do not.
ID Protection in Shared Hosting
If you order a shared hosting package from us, you will be able to activate ID Protection for any of your domain names as long as their extensions support this service. You can register or transfer a domain name and add ID Protection during the account activation process or you can activate the service for any of your domains at any moment later via the Hepsia hosting Control Panel. The process is extremely easy – after you sign in, you’ll have to visit the Registered Domains section where you’ll find a list of all the domains that you have registered through our company. For each one of them you will see an “ID Protect” sign, which will show you if the service is enabled or not. By clicking on it, you can either ID-protect the domain, or you can deactivate the service if it is currently active.
ID Protection in Semi-dedicated Hosting
If you choose to order a semi-dedicated server package from us, you will be able to add ID Protection to any of your domain names by completing a few simple steps. If you register or transfer a domain name during the signup process, you can get the service together with the domain name. If you omit this step and you think things over later, you can add the ID Protection service from the Registered Domains section of the Hepsia Control Panel, via which you can administer the whole semi-dedicated account. This is also the place where you can enable ID Protection for all other domain names that you register with our company after signing up. Renewing or removing the service is just as simple and will require only several clicks.
