An Operating System is the low-level software that controls a computer system. It controls the way your hardware operates, the communication with peripheral devices like a monitor, a printer or a keyboard, the allocation of memory between your applications, along with the prioritization of applications when several run at the same time. Any program that's installed on a laptop or a desktop operates by sending requests to the OS for different services via an application program interface (API). The interaction with the OS can be done via a Graphical User Interface (GUI) or a command line. In the web hosting world, the OS is what controls a hosting server together with all the software installed on it, which includes not only website scripts, but, in addition any other application such as a VOIP or a game server. In case there're virtual machines created, they work with a guest OS which runs on the server host OS.
Multiple OS in VPS
Our virtual private server solutions come with three Linux distributions that you may choose from for the Operating System of your new hosting server - Debian, Ubuntu and CentOS. In addition to being absolutely free, the OSs are extremely stable and risk-free and the reason to offer all three of them is to ensure that you can run any kind of application that you would like, because different pieces of software may have different requirements about the environment they work on. Each one of the three OSs is backed by a large community of web developers who have generated a large number of software packages which you can set up and use on your VPS. Depending on the Operating System which you choose, you will also be able to select between 3 different Control Panels to manage your web hosting content. Of course, in case you decide that you need a new OS, we can always reinstall the server with it. As a paid upgrade, we also offer weekly updates of the Operating System for maximum stability and security.
Multiple OS in Dedicated Hosting
We offer three Operating Systems with our dedicated server plans - CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian. They are all different Linux distributions and we offer them not only because they're 100 % free and they will not increase the price of your new server, but also because they are really stable and secure. Each of them is backed up by a vast community of web developers, so you'll be able to choose from countless software packages that you could install on your server in case the application that you intend to employ has specific requirements. The Operating System will also determine what web hosting Control Panel you can use because the Control Panels that we offer run on particular OSs only and since we would like to provide you with as much adaptability as possible, we offer a couple of OSs and multiple Control Panels. If you get a server with a certain Operating System, we can change it upon request in the event that it turns out that you need another one. We can also keep the OS updated on a weekly basis as part of our optional Managed Services upgrade.
